How To Replace Laptop Power Jack

Many times laptop owners may encounter a problem with the power-jack where it appears the plug is pushed in. Generally you will notice something is not right when you cannot turn on your notebook. This can be a costly repair if you take it to your local computer shop, geek store or send it back to the manufacturer. If you are willing to try to do the replacement yourself, it can cost you as little as $50 to do.

If you have access to another battery you may first want to be sure the issue is with the power jack itself. You can also take it to most larger named department stores that have tech support and ask them to test it for you.

Once you have determined it is indeed the this component, please follow the following steps, and realize this task is geared mostly for the advanced user. What to Do If Your Laptop Won't Turn on Even When Charger Plugged in?

You may feel very confused and frustrated that our laptop won't turn on even when we plug in the charger and press the laptop switch button.I believe most of us have encountered this situation. Yes,
it is a common phenomenon. While what can we do to fix this issue? There could be several problems that keep your laptop from turning on. However, most times, the solution is quite simple. You might
want to try out the following tips.

1.Ensure your battery is holding power. Some laptops will auto shut-off if the battery won't hold a charge. In that case, replace your battery and retry. Check your charging lights or indicators to see if your laptop is getting power and charging.

2.Check your AC to DC converter (the little black adapter you plug in your AC outlet.) This converts AC power into DC power. Is it abnormally hot? If so, it is probably burned out. Replace it. Note-
high heat is not a true indicator of malfunctioning. It can be dead and cold as well. No power indicators on your laptop could be a sign of a dead or bad converter also. Converters WILL get hot (this is normal.) If it is REAL hot (to touch), then this is not good.

3.Check your power cord. Are there nicks or cuts? If so, unplugg it from the AC power and repair with electrical tape- better yet, replace it. Many computer salvage stores carry power adapter cords.
They're cheap.

4. Check your laptop lid switch. If it is broken, you may have power but your screen may not come on. This is usually a little button or mechanism located close to the lid hinge that turns on or off your
screen when your lid is open or closed respectively. Normally the operator does not push this button. These are fragile and broken easily on some laptop models. Sometimes these can be fixed, more often they will require replacements. If you aren't an expert repair person, get a technician to repair/replace it for you. Opening up laptops is a very delicate operation and much more difficult to
repair than desktops. It may be worth it to spend the money for repair.

5?Another possible cause is the laptop DC power jack (socket where you plug the AC adapter) failure.Remove the motherboard and take a closer look at the power jack. In some cases you can fix the jack
by resoldering it on the motherboard. In other cases you have to replace the jack with a new one. Using a multimeter, test if the power goes to the motherboard through the jack.

6. If you have tried these easy solutions and it still won't power on, then your problem lies elswhere. You may have an internal power switch or voltage regulator problem.. Internal problems will require professional help.

Laptops Review-Compaq Preasrio CQ58-A10NR 15.6-Inch Laptop

The Compaq Presario CQ58-a10NR is very different from many laptops because it uses the AMD E series APU. This is a sort of a bridge between the C series processors used in the netbook style systems and the A series used in traditional laptops. It uses the same power as most of the A series but has lower clock speeds meaning less performance. Thus, by using an E-1200 dual core processor combined with 2GB of DDR3 memory and Compaq Presario Keyboard, the system can handle the basics of email, web browsing and word processing but it certainly isn't a smooth experience as laptops in the same price range using the AMD A series processor or the Intel Pentium. It definitely has problems for those that are doing multitasking and is not suited at all to something like desktop video editing.

Storage features are a bit disappointing for a laptop priced at $400. It uses a 320GB hard drive which doesn't offer quite as much storage as the 500GB drive that many of the budget class systems offer but it is more than the 250GB drives than netbook class systems use. One of the big drawbacks here though is the lack of a USB 3.0 peripheral port and other Compatible Parts for use with high speed external storage. This means that external storage devices won't be as fast as they can be. A dual layer DVD burner is included for playback and recording of CD or DVD media.

The display uses the same 15.6-inch panel with a native resolution of 1366×768 that you find in pretty much any budget laptop. It functions just fine but has limited viewing angles and color levels that become much more apparent when compared to much more expensive laptops. The one bright spot for the Compaq Presario CQ58-a10NR is the graphics system. The AMD APU series takes the Radeon HD graphics systems and placed them into the main processor for improved graphics support. The Radeon HD 7310 here is a pretty low end one that still won't be well suited for 3D graphics but it does offer improved acceleration for non-3D applications such as Photoshop compared to Intel's integrated graphics.

The Compaq laptop keyboard for the Presario CQ58 uses a more traditional style than the chiclet or isolated keys that have become common to many systems. The Compaq Keyboard key layout itself isn't really a problem but the flat keys and limited space between keys may be a problem for those with larger hands and fingers. The trackpad is actually quite wide but is rather short which gives it a bit of an awkward space. The trackpad is also centered on the palmrest rather than on the center of the home row which may throw off some users.

HP has included a standard six cell battery pack with a 47WHr capacity rating on it that one would find in most 15-inch laptops. In my digital video playback tests, the laptop was able to run for three and half hours. This is pretty typical for the running time of a 15-inch laptop but is a bit disappointing though. Generally if you are looking at a slower processor, you would hope to have some added benefit from extra running time. This is very apparent in HP's Envy Sleekbook 6 which runs nearly six hours on a low wattage AMD A series processor but with a larger battery pack and a higher price tag.

Priced at $400, the Compaq Presario CQ58-a10NR has a lot of competition at this price point, unfortunately most are just better. Some notable alternatives include the ASUS X54C, the HP 2000t and the Toshiba Satellite C855. The ASUS is just slightly more expensive but uses a has a better processor, more memory, more storage space, longer battery life and a USB 3.0 port and Laptop Keyboard Cover. HP's 2000t is essentially an Intel based version of this laptop that features more performance, memory and storage. Toshiba like the HP also a faster processor and a USB 3.0 port but can actually be found for under $400.

4 Prevailing Laptop Trends That Dictate Future Designs

They say that the laptops of tomorrow will be lighter and faster, will boot almost immediately, and will have longer-lasting batteries. All that's left is making them purely touch-based, and we could very well be talking about present-day tablet PCs.

All kidding aside, though, it's no coincidence that tablet-like characteristics have been the emulation basis for future portable computers. As it stands now, portable gadgets like smartphones and the aforementioned tablet PCs have taken the electronics consumer market by storm; and while laptops are portable themselves, certain factors keep them from going all out on full portability convenience. That is, on the plus side, laptops still retain much of the functionalities of full-fledged desktops. On the other hand, being saddled with desktop-like laptop components are preventing them from the kind of portability enjoyed by tablets.

Still, trends are developing now that are expected to put laptops back in the limelight. Whether it's improved laptop parts or rethought design schematics, these trends certainly look promising for laptops to come back in a big way.

1. Better Displays

Whereas older laptop screens were plagued with poor color contrast, narrow viewing angles, and resolutions that only reached until 1,366 x 768 pixels, current emerging technologies are saying that that needn't be the case.

Apple's Retina Display is one such technology. Although already introduced a few years back, it wasn't until the release of the latest MacBook Pro this year that the tech was able to show what it was truly capable of: 2,880 x 1,800 pixels of high-definition goodness, which is well beyond the current HD standard of 1080p (that's 1,920 x 1,080 pixels).

Another technology promising big things for the future of laptop screens is Samsung's Super AMOLED. Although implemented only in the company's smartphones at the moment, the tech nevertheless shows that excellent color contrast and viewing angles is indeed possible on portable gadget screens.

2. Improved Graphical Quality

The releases of the Radeon 7000M and the GeForce 600M lines of video cards (from AMD and NVIDIA, respectively) have been a boon to the laptop industry. These laptop parts are designed to match the graphical outputs of high-end desktop GPUs while still keeping heat generation to a minimum; a definite plus for cramped laptop chassis.

3. Elimination of Ports

With laptop casings getting smaller by the year, not enough space is left for ports. As such, there has been a drive to make peripheral hardware integration wireless.

NFC (near-field communication) technology, in particular, is making waves. If developed further, we could very well be seeing it expand its use from being a credit card substitute to a full-blown means for inter-gadget connectivity.

4. Faster Data Access

Finally, solid state drives are storage devices that have no need for mechanical parts, as opposed to hard drives with their disks and whatnot that require some time before its parts are set in place for data retrieval.

Bottom line: SSDs give faster data access, which is why more and more laptops are installing the laptop components.

Microcontroler
Mikrokontroler adalah perangkat elektronika digital yang mempunyai input dan output serta kendali dengan program yang bisa ditulis dan dihapus dengan cara khusus. cara kerja mikrokontroler sebenarnya hanya membaca dan menulis data. Mikrokontroler merupakan komputer didalam chip yang digunakan untuk mengontrol peralatan elektronik, yang menekankan efisiensi dan efektifitas biaya. Secara harfiahnya bisa disebut "pengendali kecil" dimana sebuah sistem elektronik yang sebelumnya banyak memerlukan komponen-komponen pendukung seperti IC TTL dan CMOS dapat direduksi/diperkecil dan akhirnya terpusat serta dikendalikan oleh mikrokontroler ini.
Perangkat lunak(software) BIOS dibangun pada motherboard computer berdasarkan system microcontroler, dan merupakan kode pertama yang dijalankan oleh computer saat diaktifkan ('firmware boot'). Fungsi utama BIOS adalah untuk mengatur hardware dan beban(load) dalam memulai sebuah sistem operasi ketika computer dijalankan, pekerjaan pertama untuk BIOS adalah untuk menginisialisasi dan mengidentifikasi perangkat sistem seperti video ,keyboard, mouse, hard disk drive, disk drive optik dan perangkat keras lainnya. BIOS kemudian menempatkan perangkat lunak pada perangkat periferal (yang ditunjuk sebagai 'perangkat boot'), seperti hard disk atau CD / DVD, dan mengeksekusi perangkat lunak tersebut serta memberikan kendali .Proses ini dikenal sebagai boot, atau boot up, yang merupakan kependekan dari bootstrap.
Dengan memiliki knowledge diatas akan memudahkan kita mendeteksi permasalahan pada motherboard laptop.tentu saja dengan mengetahui permasalahan kita dapat pula mengatasi masalah .

Hardware problem analisys prosedure

Gejala-gejala kerusakan dan standar  analisa

1.Hank,suka Restart,Blue screen,tidak bisa di instal OS

-Software checking

a.untuk mengetahui apakah yang bermasalah adalah software,coba hidupkan Laptop tanpa menggunakan hardisk (Hdd)..

b.Hidupkan Laptop masuk ke bios settup(F2/F10/dell) ubah settingan ke settup defould (tekan f9 kemudian tekan F10 untuk menyimpan pengaturan dan enter).Gunakan Hirent boot utility (tekan f12 untuk merubah boot option-boot from cd-pilih xp mini)jalankan windows mini dari cd,lakukan pengecekan,jika tidak ada masalah kemungkinan besar permasalahan ada pada HDD atau software windowsnya.

c.Instal ulang OS(windows) jika masih bermasalah coba jalannkan dengan menggunakan HDD lain.jika normal berarti permasalahannya terjadi pada HDD drivenya.

Jika analisa tersebut diatas sudah dilakukan ternyata masih bermasalah,kita lakukan analisa berikutnya:

-Hardware cheking.

a.lepaskan semua device (hdd,optick,keyboard,Lcd,battery.)
Hidupkan Laptop dengan menggunakan Lcd external,keyboard external dan Hdd.
jika Laptop berjalan dengan normal,berarti salah satu device ada yang bermasalah,sehingga ICH chip stop working/Protect error.
cobakan device satu persatu untuk mengetahui device yang mana yang bermasalah.

Jika prosedur diatas telah dilakukan tetapi Laptop masih bermasalah,dapat kita pastikan permasalahan ada pada motherboard komponen.

Sebelum melakukan pengecekan pada motherboard componen yang onboard,kita mulai melakukan pengecekan pada componen yang non onboard terlebih dahulu.

1a.pengecekan pada ram/sodim,lakukan penggantian memori atau dengan memindahkan memori ke soket yang lainnya untuk mengetahui apakah hanya soket memori yang bermasalah.
1b.Lakukan analisa yang sama seperti diatas pada procesor.

jika permasalahan masih terjadi dapat kita pastikan permasalahan terjadi pada komponen motherboard yang akan kita bahas pada sesi lain .(lihat pada halaman blog Analisa motherboard problem)


2.Tidak ada indikator Lampu (Mati Total)

a.Pertama tama kita lakukan adalah pengecekan pada adapter.
Lakukan pengecekan dengan menggunakan multitester untuk mengetahui adapter mempunyai tegangan atau tidak.jika tidak lakukan penggantian adapter.
Pada saat penggunaan adaptop hal yang wajib kita lakukan adalah memperhatikan led/lampu indikator pada adapter.jika lampu berkedip/mati.segera putuskan hubungan dengan Laptop karena sudah bisa dipastikan bahwa ada componen motherboard yang short.

3.Led nyala(power on) tetapi tidak ada display.

-Analisa pertama yang kita lakukan adalah dengan melihat indikator Hdd bekerja atau tidak.jika bekerja berarti mesin bekerja tetapi tidak menampilkan display pada monitor.
Gunakan monitor external,jika tampil,kemungkinan terjadi ada 5 :

3a.Lcd/Led cable.lakukan penggantian atau dengan cara memperhatikan jika ada bekas putus atau terbakar pada kabel.

-Inverter adalah suport balas untuk backlight display .ciri cirinya kalau kita perhatikan sebenarnya display tampil tetapi gelap karena backligt mati.ini dapat disebabkan neon lcd mati atau inverter mati,atau power untuk inverter yang bermasalah.lakukan penggantian inverter untuk mengetahui apakah inverter dalam keadaan baik atau tidak.

-Lcd/Led pengecekan Lcd/atau Led dapat dilakukan seperti pada poin 3a.

3b.Jika indikator pada HDD tidak menyala atau motherboard menampilkan kode error seperti bunyi atau signal lampu.contoh bunyi beep atau lampu indikator berkedip2.menandakan kerusakan terjadi pada motherboard komponen.
sebelum kita menganalisa motherboard komponen yang onboard (terintegrasi pada motherboard)sebaiknya kita melakukan pengecekan seperti yang di jelaskan pada poin 1a.

4.Power hidup,bisa masuk windows tetapi battery tidak terdeteksi.

Perhatikan indikor pada windows battery indikator,lepas battery dalam keadaan hidup,kemudian pasang kembali,kalau battery terdeteksi berarti hanya penginstalan battery yang kurang baik/longgar.

beberapa metoda analisa untuk battery :

-Lakukan penggantian untuk pengetesan.
-melakukan pengukuran pada battery slot.biasanya ada 7 pin dimulai dari negatif(Ground)ditandai pin 2bh lebih panjang dari yg lainnya.ukur 4pin yang lebih pendek dari ground.seharusnya output recharging system yang normal mengeluarkan tegangan 2x 3v dan 2x 5v..jika tegangan tidak keluar atau berubah ubah atau tidak mencukupi tegangan yang dibutuhkan,dapat dipastikan permasalahan terjadi pada komponen motherboard (recharging system).
Jika pengukuran sesuai seperti standard yang battery butuhkan,dipastikan battery atau komponen pada battery pack yang bermasalah.
-Permasalahan juga dapat terjadi akibat perubahan data counter battery yg rubah oleh Windows 7.lihat Artikel sy yang lain pada Link ini :

Toshiba 200series Behavior problem(masalah umum)

Masalah yang sering terjadi pada Toshiba m200series dan a200 series
Gejala :
Hidup normal dengan menggunakan battery langsung bermasalah apabila dicolokin adapter.
Gejala diatas terjadi diakibatkan corespeed processor terlalu tinggi sehingga mainbord menjadi bermasalah.reaksi yang timbulpun beragam,apabila menggunakan adapter tampilan menjadi burek/blur seperti permasalahan vga…gejala seperti ini janganlah dianggap karena kerusakan vga,tetapi terjadi ketidak seimbangan corespdeed pada mainboard ketika diberikan power maximal…ada pula apabila menggunakan adapter laptop langsung restart atau mati.
Penurunan value atau nilai vccore(power procesor)membuat seri dualcore dan core2duo ini membuat power generator yang terintegrasi pada motherboard tidak mampu menjalankan multy procesor dengan baik.gejala diatas timbul ketika suplay power berusaha memberikan tenaga penuh genertor procesor.Kelemahan bank kapasitor yang nilai penyimpanan arus pada kapasitor polarized(super capasitor:nec tokin).membuat reaksi yang beragam pada system board.
Mengenali permasalahan ini yaitu dengan mencoba mendisablekan multy procesor system yang dapat di set pada device manager jika unit masih bisa masuk ke operating system dalm safe mode boot.disablekan salah satu procesor dn mencoba untuk kembali booting pada normal mode.jika settingan seperti ini berhasil.dapat dipastikan memang permasalahan terjadi karena vccore kekurangan power pada saat generator procesor .

Penanganan :dengan memodifikasi motherboard corespeed(ask for professional advice)atau merendahkan(downgread processor speed)atau melakukan refisi sesuai dengan refisi yang direkomendasikan manufaktur dalam schema untuk melakukan penambahan kekuaatan bank kapasitor sebagai cadangan power untuk procesor (VCCORE)

Solder salah satu ujung kabel sepanjang 20cm ke terminal positif ke 9v baterai holder. Solder ujung kabel yang lain ke kaki resistor 500-ohm.

Solder kaki resistor satunya lagi dengan kabel sepanjang +/- 20cm. Solder ujung sisa kawat ke ujung anoda 5mm Red LED. Solder ujung katoda  dari Red LED ke  switch SPST.

Solder salah satu ujung kabel ke saklar SPST pada ujung lainnya ke alligator clip(penjepit buaya).

Solder salah satu ujung kabel  ke terminal negatif dari pemegang baterai dan ujung lainnya ke alligator clip(penjepit buaya).kedua.

Offkan  saklar. jepit  dua lead buaya ke dua kaki kapasitor. Masukkan baterai 9-volt ke dudukan baterai.

Switch on saklar dan lihat LED merah. LED akan menyala sebentar dan kemudian redup dan mati. Kapasitor ini sekarang telah terisi dengan nilai 9 volt. Lampu LED hanya akan menyala jika arus mengalir dan capasitor sedang diisi.

Offkan saklar SPST. Pegang kapasitor dengan satu tangan dan lepas penjepit buaya dengan tangan yang lain. Jangan menyentuh kedua lead pada saat yang sama. Capasitor sekarang siap untuk digunakan.
